Brisbane to Sydney & back DJ Marks - Ulysses AGM Over 65 & 1,000 Kms in one day on a scooter. They say you can take the boy off the bike but that's not the case with Ulysses riders David Marks David is a long time motorcyclist opting for a scooter to keep his passion for two wheels a reality. David is one of a growing number of Scooterists to use his ride for interstate trips (if he was in Europe it would be international trips). David needed a little more pep out of his Firenze to make it suitable for what he does. Here's his story
Hi all, I have just returned from the Ulysses AGM at Penrith NSW, I left Brisbane on the 18.03.09 on the Sym Firenze all loaded up with camping gear, I travelled to Taree & stayed overnight after doing 620.K's then on to Penrith the next day doing the last kilometres ( 386.k's ) total of 1006 k's
After a great AGM I set off on Sunday morning at 10 minutes to 5 am ( yes I know it's a bit to early for some ) the reason for the early start was to see if the Firenze could handle the return trip in one hit, after 1004 k's only stopping for fuel, breakfast & lunch I arrived at my Home at 4.32pm, I sat on mainly 110 to 120 kph mostly 120 @ 6.800 RPM., fuel averaged out at around 21.6 k's per litre & the best was 26.4 per litre on the return run home, total kilometres for the trip down & return was 20010 k's.
I want to thank D'Arcy & Tim the mechanic at Scooter Headquarters on the Gold Coast, for preparing & fitting a Malossi Variator for greater exceleration & overall performance especially for high speed overtaking, this along with the after market exhaust system has completly transformed the Firenze with power more like a 400cc, the Bike performed faultlessly & as I'm over 65 with a bad back I was happy overall with the comfort, the last 150.k's though I started to feel the old numb bum, would I do it again, sure, but one note I would not recommend a pillon passenger on a trip like this.
Thanks Sym & Scooter HQ for a great package.
David Marks.
