Orv's pleasure machine Roller Derbi "it was natural he sourced a European scooter manufactured in...Spain. "
Brendon Orv has provided "Full Artistic License" to write this....
Orv, one of our most colourful characters, the brightest too if you factor in one of his quality hawaiian shirts. You see Orv is not your average motoring enthusiast, he has a tendency to take things to he extreme, examples of his lunacy? they include Datsun 1200 fitted with the standard 1.2ltr 4 cylinder engine replaced by a worked Ford 302(5ltr) V8 running nitrous, a classic Benelli motorcycle that resides in his lounge room, his current rides are a 2000cc Kawasaki cruiser and a 50cc scooter.
Orv is of Dutch decent and proud of it, it was natural he sourced a European scooter manufactured in...Spain.
The Derbi is a Liquid Cooled 50cc with disc brakes front and rear, they are a quality piece of sports scooter exotica. Orv has an uncanny ability to source really hard to find expensive parts easily and cheaply. He is they guy you hear about who pays 50% less for things than you do, right place right time and he is patient.
As such he has accumulated all his aftermaket parts cheaply. Not just buying a new carburettor, he obtains 3 carbs plus a range of jets for each for less than 1/2 the cost of one carb. Similar story with Rollers, variator, clutch springs, pod filter, exhaust, cdi unit etc. In fact if we listed all the parts for this scoot you would be scrolling downwards for a long time.
Suffice to say this has been tinkered with and is fitted with the best gear, not the biggest. It has been setup beautifully and goes like stink. Like us he is a man of the cloth (polishing cloth) and would rather go out in a dirty shirt than a dirty scooter.
I'd say the Derbi is finished, Orv would disagree, there is still something out there on some Euro Scooter site that he hasn't obtained (cheaply) for the Derbi. published 19/02/2007 |
