Scooters that can be ridden on a Car License

You can ride most 50cc Scooters in Queenland on a car license

Brendon

You can ride a 50cc Scooter on a Car license in Qld. These scooters are know as LA class scooters. They are restricted to a engine size of 50cc or less and have a top speed that is restricted to 50km/h with a 10% variance.

Every 50cc Scooter we stock can be ridden in Qld on a Car License. Like any registered vehicle you will need at least a provisional "P" class license to be able to ride on your own. If you are considering a 50cc scooter we strongly recommend you do some rider training, two hours and $100 provides you with some basic skills that make you a whole lot safer on the road.

These scooters must be delivered to you in restricted form to comply with LA class rules. We often get asked about "Derestricting" 50cc LA class Scooters. Should you choose to make your LA class scooter faster it then becomes illegal to ride on public roads regardless of whether you hold a car or motorcycle license.

In all reality if you want to do more than 50km/h bite the bullet and buy a scooter with a bigger engine. They accelerate better, have a higher top speed and more often than not use less fuel than their 50cc counterparts. Sure you will need a motorcycle license but you only need an automatic motorcycle license which is pretty easy to get as there are no gears and you will be a much better and safer rider after the training. Most people with no previous experience on two wheels will spend less than $500 in obtaining an automatic under 250cc motorcycle license.
