GP1 250 tuning Derbi GP1 250 A box of Malossi goodies has just arrived for the GP1 Brendon A box of goodies has just arrived for the Derbi GP1 250 & some other scoots. So far our GP1 has received a new power pipe which we have tested made alterations too & ordered a batch from the Italian manufacturer. The pipe works well & with a couple of minor tweaks gives the GP1 one of the sweetest single cylinder exhaust notes going.
The next item fitted was a Malossi variator, which has improved the GP1's accelleration from a standing start by a fair margin. Where the GP1 would jump off the mark & take a few metres before the accelleration started it now leaps out of the blocks with a few more revs on the tacho than standard pulling hard right through to its top speed which is no higher than before, just gets there faster. The major noticable difference is throttle input to rear wheel feel. Power on through a corner & you immediately feel the extra drive is, the feeling between throttle & rear wheel is more direct.
Accelleration out of corners has also improved with cold tyres combined with a handful of throttle producing rear wheel spin & a smile. For GP1 owners who have ridden ours with the power pipe the addition of the variator gives the GP1 a more menacing feel. There are still a couple of very minor things to sort out but the basis of the GP1 kit is done.T he question on the minds of GP1 owners is whether the pipe & variator are worth it?
The answer to the question is simple With my GP1 the pipe is staying on & the variator sure as hell isn't coming out either.
