Scooter Racing in Australia is a reality The Scooter Six Hour Saturday 15th December saw Australia's first ever Scooter Race Brendon Scooter Racing in Australia officially commenced on Saturday night. A field of 15 Scooters took to the track in an attempt to take the honours. Scooters were divided into three classes, Scooter Stock which is standard as you buy them 50cc Scooters, Super Scooter caters for Modified 50cc Scooters & Mega Scooter for modified scooters up to 70cc.
Riders came from as far as Victoria & New South Wales to compete in Australia's Premier Scooter Race. Queensland is not only Australia's Scooter capital but also the home of Scooter Motorsport. Every major Scooter retailer in South East Queensland was represented, the race is supported by organisations such as Shell Oils, Vmoto Scooters, Scootersales.com.au & Scooter HQ.
The event began at 6.00 pm at the Ipswich Kart Track which is part of the Willowbank Motorsport Precinct and provided the riders with a very technical and challenging course. Scooter racing is arguably the cheapest form of motorsport available with competitors able to field a competitive scooter from as little as $1,890 then ride it to work on Monday for a few cents in fuel.
The image of the humble scooter is changing rapidly with the need to reduce our carbon footprint making them a must have item for the environmentally aware. Recent advancements in scooter technology has improved performance & dynamics making Scooter Racing an exciting sport for both participants & spectators. Australians are riding the scooter boom with a vengeance and have accepted the Scooter as part of our culture. Scooter Racing is an extremely popular sport in Europe, Asia & now Australia is embracing this form of motorsport with open arms.
After six hours of hard fought racing the outright winner was Team Scootershop on a 70cc TGB 101 Mega Scooter with Team Scooter HQ second on a Vmoto Monza 50cc Super Scooter and Gold Coast Scooters third on an Scooter Stock Aprilia 50cc. These scooters also finished first in their respective classes.
The Scooter HQ 6 Hour Scooter race is being followed up with another first which is Australia's first ever Scooter Racing Series a 5 race sprint series beginning in January. More information is available at www.ScooterHQ.com.au.
