Sports styling, power pipe & disc brakes

Mojo GT50

$1,999 ride away

Brendon Watson

It's finally arrived, the Mojo we have been waiting for. The GT50 is a budget sports scoot with aggressive sports styling. Our introduction to the Mojo GT50 was during the wet 2009 Le Minz 24 hour scooter race where we provided support for the two girls & one guy who piloted the GT50 during the event. Being wet the team crashed it on many occassions testing the strength of the scoot. While we ran out of brake levers from crashing all the panels are still on the scoot, its not bent and it weathered the storm very well. Often budget scooters are ready for recycling after one of these events.

We have had the ex Le Minz racer under wraps since the event in February this year, it hasn't been collecting dust either. What we immediately liked about the GT50 was the Minarelli clone engine which are great performers with plenty of aftermarket accessories available. The disc brakes front & rear with possibly the biggest strongest adjustable rear shock fitted to a budget 50cc scooter. In the time we have had the GT50 we developed a performance kit ready for its release, we don't do kits unless we are starting from a solid foundation.

At $1,799 +orc (which varies from state to state) the Mojo GT50 is definately budget, we aren't going to tell you its high quality because quite frankly it isn't. We know budget Chinese scooters very well, despite what some marketing material claims they aren't all created equal. Some manufacturers produce solid things, others produce utter garbage. The Mojo we class as a solid budget offering. Le Minz proved this for us.

Warranty is 12 Month parts only, this has been done to keep pricing as low as possible, effectively we have a product to compete with the internet scooter marketers. The bonus being it's backed by HQ & you have a physical presence to go to in the event of a problem. Better than chasing up warranty over the net. We anticipate quite a few of the GT50's to end up modified, it just happens to this type of scooter. In anticipation we have already developed a kit for the GT50.

The GT50 handles quite well, good ground clearance, brakes & suspension. Its no SR50 but makes most others in its price range feel like boats. Performance is fair out of the box with the speed limited to 50km/h, derestriction (which is illegal) is very easy by way of CDI, a CDI control the spark to the engine tyhe standard CDI limits revs. Derestricted the Mojo reaches 65-70 on the speedo. With the HQ performance race kit it reaches over 80km/h.

Ergonomics are OK, everything is where it should be, control switches are easy to reach & feel solid, seat is also good. Instruments consist of fuel guage, speedo, odometer, clock & warning lights for low oil, highbeam & indicators. Nothing special here.

The Mojo is going to appeal to budget buyers, those who like to do their own servicing, the fast 50's fanatics & many more.  If you are on a budget this is a must see scooter, we have the Mojo GT50 over $300 off for a special limited introductory price, in Queensland that equates to $1,999 scoot away with six months solo seat registration.
