Road Test

Bolwell Red Devil 50cc

The whole package works very well together and provides a secure riding feeling

Brendon

The Bolwell Red Devil is a Taiwanese manufactured Scooter from the SYM factory that is distributed in Australia by Bolwell.

The Red Devil has all the usual features of the 50cc class, 12" Wheels, Disc brake front end with twin piston brake caliper, underseat storage, electric start, luggage hook, luggage rack and a big 6.3 ltr fuel tank. The engine is a 49cc Oil injected (No mixing) two stroke that produces 3.2kw in standard (Restricted) form. What is apparent when sitting or riding a Red Devil is it is solid and well built scooter.

The seating postion is good and suits riders from 5' 5" to 6' 4" quite well. The instruments are all large and easy to read with the switch gear solid and almost unbreakable. The seating position is good and with the shape of the floorboards allows a range of places to put your feet.

In standard form the Red Devil pulls to its 50km/h limit quite steadily where it stays. Naturally we derestricted the Red Devil to see how it would perform without any restrictions. With the engine and transmission free from restriction the red devil is capable of 70km/h on a flat road and will run out to just over 75km/h. Down hills you will see more, but we always talk flat road speeds.

Two up the Red Devil is quite surprising and handles the weight of a second person very well. The suspension is not overwhelmed, rather it just sits a little lower and takes it all in its stride.

While the Red Devil is a commuter scooter it does offer something to the "Sports Riders" out there. While its not the lightest or most powerful scooter in its class the whole package works very well together and provides a secure riding feeling. It also won its class in last years Gold Coast Le Minz against much more expensive and exotic rivals.

The Red Devil is a solid no nonsense sports scooter that can cope with much more punishment than your average 50. Thats why it's backed by a 4 year warranty.
