Road Test Bolwell Jet 100 Provides the kind of power and torque 50cc riders can only dream of Brendon Lots of people get onto 50cc scooter because of the car license concession. A large percentage of these owners modify or derestrict their scoots to get that little bit more from them. The money spent buying and tuning a 50cc scoot could have been better spent by getting onto something faster to begin with.
The Red Devil 50cc & Jet 100cc scooters are effectively the same scooter. In the same way that a Subaru Impreza GL & Impreza WRX are. Its effectively the same unit with different engine, transmission, wheels, trim and panel options. The Jet 100 gets all the extra good bits like alloy wheels and aggressive body panels
Ergonimics are very similar to the Red Devil 50cc scooter that it shares a lot with, solid and easy to reach. The seating is also the same able to accomodate those from 5' 5" to 6' 4". Where the Jet 100 really shines is it offers all the benefits of a 50cc scooter such as light weight and manouvreability whilst providing the kind of power and torque 50cc riders can only dream of. Twist the throttle from a standing start and the Jet 100 takes off with solid accelleration all the way to 85km/h where is starts to tail off. Maximum Speed is around 95km/h. Throw a second person on the back and the Jet copes with ease, which is surprising given its 50cc class dimensions.
Engine wise the 100cc direct injection two stroke produces just over 5kw of power, the mid range of the scoot is very good and provides instant response propelling the Jet forward. Unlike its 50cc little brother you don't need to hold the throttle fully open to get anywhere it also provides better fuel economy when ridden this way.
If want a 50cc scooter and are a little bigger than average or have an 80km/h zone on the way home this is a scooter that you should look at, in some states you may have to get a license however it is worth it just for the extra confidence provided by the more powerful engine.
The Bolwell is backed by a 4 year warranty, retail is only $3,090 plus ORC.
