Road Test

Bolwell PMX Naked 50cc

It's the kind of scooter you go looking for corners with.

Brendon

The Bolwell PMX Naked is an unmistakable scooter its unique styling really sets it apart from other sports scooters.

The PMX has all the standard features you come to expect of a scooter, underseat storage, electric start, direct oil injection (No Premix) and automatic. What sets it apart from the rest of the sports scooter crowd is the alloy Motocross handlbars, LED multifunction digital dash, huge 220mm front Wave Disc Brake with twin piston caliper, and loads of ground clearance.

When you get on a PMX Naked you notice that you are on a reasonably tall, narrow and light scooter. These are the basic ingredients for an entertaining ride. On the road the PMX Naked does everything you want. Sharp turns are no problems, the suspension is firm and confidence inspiring and the brakes are superb. It's the kind of scooter you go looking for corners with.

The 49cc two stroke engine is like all Bolwell engines reliable, solid and produces good power. In restricted form the PMX goes straight to its 50km/h limit without fuss. Remove the restriction devices and the PMX naked will run out to just under 80km/h, which is 5km/h more than most other 50's. It will accelerate quite well to 74km/h where the accelleration tails off and the scoot climbs the extra k's to its top speed.

The PMx track Scooter we run has travelled a total of just over 3,200 kms ALL of them on the track, it has won its class in the 2006 Melbourne Le Minz 24 hour scooter race and came 8th overall in the 2007 Gold Coast Le Minz. Its also done countless track nights all with the original components and shows no signs of its like of abuse. it looks just like new except from a few scratches where it has been crashed.

At $2,790 + ORC the PMX Naked is mid range 50cc scooter. Its backed by the Bolwell 4 year warranty and the PMX Naked is a shining example of you get what you pay for, you certainly can get cheaper 50cc scooters but I can tell you from our experience with the PMX on the road and the track, you won't find one that is more fun no matter how much you spend.
